Thoothukudi (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 2 (ANI): Bringing much respite from severe heat, Kovilpatti and surrounding areas of Thoothukudi district in Tamil Nadu received heavy rains on Sunday.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai, areas including Kovilpatti Nagar, Inam Maniachi, Pandavarmangalam, Chitangulam, Moopanpatti, Nalatinputhur and Ilayarasanendal received rains accompanied by heavy thunder and lightning.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday that the southwest monsoon has advanced into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Lakshadweep area, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, some parts of Karnataka, Rayalseema and Andhra Pradesh, remaining parts of southwest Bay of Bengal, some more parts of central Bay of Bengal and some parts of northwest Bay of Bengal.
The IMD has predicted isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Tamil Nadu on June 5.
Earlier in the day, a satellite imagery showed light to moderate spell of rainfall occasionally intense spell accompanied with moderate to intense thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (40-60 kmph occasionally) over Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Lakshadweep and Andaman Islands during night time.
Light to moderate spell of rainfall accompanied with moderate thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) also likely over West Jharkhand, southwest Gangetic West Bengal, North Rajasthan, Marathwada, Vidarbha, west and central Assam, Meghalaya, east Manipur, south Mizoram and Nicobar Islands during night time, the IMD said in a post on X.
