Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], August 3 (ANI): Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday granted in-principle approval for the allocation of rupees 144.32 crores for more than seven thousand rainwater harvesting projects in three zones–Northwest, Southwest, and West–of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
Under Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will plan these projects through the Private Society Public Participation Scheme (Khaangi Society Janbhaagidari Yojana). This scheme facilitates public welfare projects in private societies through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with a funding ratio of 70:20:10. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has received applications for rainwater harvesting projects from 7,497 societies, 3,180 in the Northwest zone, 1,617 in the Southwest zone, and 2,500 in the West zone.
Taking on to the social media platform X, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said “The government is moving forward in a planned way to collect rainwater and raise the groundwater level”.
“Under this, to carry out rainwater harvesting works in North West, South West and West Zones of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Rs. 144.32 crores were granted in-principle approval” he said in the post.
“Construction of percolating wells will be undertaken on a PPP basis in residential societies, multi-storied buildings, and apartments by taking up rainwater harvesting and groundwater table recharge campaigns in Ahmedabad’ he added in the post.
To expedite rainwater harvesting projects in Gujarat, the state government is promoting the construction of percolating wells through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) under the Groundwater Recharge Policy. As part of this initiative, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation plans to build percolating wells in residential societies, multi-story buildings, and apartments on a PPP basis to improve groundwater recharge. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has granted in-principle approval for the allocation of rupees 144.32 crore, which constitutes 70% of the total rupees 206.16 crore proposal submitted by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation through the State Urban Development Department.
