Guwahati (Assam) [India], September 10 (ANI): With the aim to bring an additional 20 lakh beneficiaries under a poverty alleviation scheme Orunodoi, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired a meeting to review the guidelines ahead of the launch of Orunodoi 3.0.
The meeting was held on Monday under the leadership of Chief Minster Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Under the Orunadoi scheme, women, being the primary caretakers of the family are kept as beneficiaries of this scheme by the State government.
In a significant development, the expanded version Orunodoi 3.0 aims to transfer Rs 1,250 into the bank accounts of 37 lakh women, marking an increase of 20 lakh beneficiaries with increase in the amount from Rs 1000 to Rs 1250.
As per the guidelines, Orunodoi 3.0 seeks to ensure that politically connected households remain outside its ambit, with an effective grievance redressal mechanism in place. The guidelines also aimed at bringing robust measures to identify “needy” and “marginalised” beneficiaries.
Taking to microblogging site X, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “In 2020, Assam launched Orunodoi and became one of the first states to launch a cash transfer scheme exclusively for women. Since then, this scheme has been expanded. What’s best this has served as a model for many states to replicate such programs.”

The tweet added, “Today, I chaired a meeting to review the guidelines ahead of the launch of Orunodoi 3.0, where we aim to transfer Rs1,250 into the bank accounts of 37 lakh women. The new guidelines will aim to: Ensure most politically connected households remain outside the ambit of this scheme, an effective grievance redressal mechanism is in place and bring robust measures to identify beneficiaries which will be inclined towards the needy and marginalised.”
“From Rs 830 to 19 lakh beneficiaries in 2020, to Rs 1250 to 37 lakh beneficiaries in 2024, I am extremely satisfied the way Orunodoi has evolved and the transformation it has ushered in,” CM’s social media handle said.
According to the Assam Government, “Orunodoi’ or Arunodoi Scheme is a new scheme of the government of Assam which was launched on October 2, 2020. Under ‘Orunodoi’, monetary benefits have been envisaged for more than 24 lakhs poor household in the state. Women being the primary caretakers of the family are kept as beneficiaries of the scheme. ‘Orunodoi’ scheme provides financial assistance through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme to several families in the state.” (ANI)
