Etawah (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 11 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav said on Tuesday that he will have to leave one of the two seats he holds, and will be resigning from Uttar Pradesh’s Karhal Assembly seat.
Akhilesh Yadav, who won the Kannauj Lok Sabha constituency, also holds the Karhal assembly seat. He won the latter in the 2022 UP assembly elections.
“I have met the workers of Karhal and Mainpuri and told them that as I have won the elections from 2 seats, I have to leave a seat. So I will inform you about leaving the seat of Vidhan Sabha soon,” Akhilesh Yadav said in a press conference on Tuesday.
Once Akhilesh resigns from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, he will no longer be the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly.
Being asked who would be the next LoP, Yadav said, “Decision will be taken by the party in a way that is beneficial for the party and increases the party’s vote share.”
Earlier, the party announced that Akhilesh Yadav will be the party’s leader in the Lok Sabha.
The Samajwadi Party put up an impressive show in the Lok Sabha elections, winning 37 out of the 80 seats.
The former Chief Minister himself won the party’s stronghold seat of Kannauj, defeating BJP candidate Subrat Pathak by over 1,70,922 votes.
The Samajwadi Party (SP) won 37 seats, the BJP won 33, Congress won 6, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) won 2, and Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) and Apna Dal (Soneylal) won 1 seat each in the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh. (ANI)
