Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], May 16 (ANI): Following the Directorate of Enforcement’s (ED) arrest of Jharkhand Minister and Congress leader Alamgir Alam in a money laundering case, the state’s Congress President, Rajesh Thakur, expressed discontent, stating that Alam, being a person of integrity, deserved better treatment under the law.
Thakur said that Alam was not someone who would have fled and that the law should have respected him. He also emphasized that what happened to Alam was unjust.
“He appeared before the ED, he was questioned yesterday, and today, suddenly, the news of the arrest came. He was arrested after PM Modi’s speech, so a political angle comes into this. A person honestly appeared before the ED and he was not someone who would have run away, so the law should have respected him,” the Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) chief Thakur said.
“If he wanted, he could have sought time by citing the election, but he didn’t do that. In a way, what happened to him was not right. He could have been called for questioning even after a few days. People are seeing this with their naked eyes. People will reply to this,” he said.
The JPCC chief also emphasized that they will fully cooperate with the legal process, adding, “We are against corruption, but if someone takes political advantage of it, then it is not right.”
Another Jharkhand Congress leader, Rakesh Sinha, alleged that those who dare to ask questions regarding inflation and unemployment are being arrested.
“He was arrested without any evidence because he is a Congress Minister. Had he been like Ajit Pawar or Narayan Rane, he would not have been arrested. Only those people who dare to ask questions regarding inflation, unemployment, and the declining economy are being arrested. The ED is the medium to silence such people. Through the ED, PM and Amit Shah arrest such people and silence their voices,” Sinha said.
He continued to say that the arrest of Hemant Soren and Alamgir Alam will be the BJP’s last nail in the coffin in Jharkhand.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, reacting to the arrest of the Jharkhand minister, said on Wednesday that people will pay according to their deeds.
Jharkhand’s Rural Development Minister and Congress leader Alamgir Alam was arrested by the ED on Wednesday.
The ED had issued a summons to Alam to appear before the agency on May 14 at the Ranchi Zonal Office. He was summoned in connection with the recovery of huge cash from the household help of his PS Sanjeev Lal.
Alamgir Alam’s personal secretary (PS) and the latter’s house help were arrested by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on Tuesday, a day after Rs 35.23 crore were seized from them.
Both Sanjiv Lal, PS to Alam, and his domestic help, Jahangir Alam, were also arrested by the ED after the raids and subsequent recovery of Rs 35.23 crore in cash from their premises in Jharkhand’s Ranchi. (ANI)
