Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 27 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu urged the opposition to raise all the issues concerning the public during the monsoon session of the assembly saying that it would help the government to serve the people better.
CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, “10 meetings have been organized to make the monsoon session historic. We want the opposition to raise all the issues. If they raise the issues of the public, then the government will benefit from it. The government will work further on the issues raised by them and serve the people of the state.”
He further said that in the entire country, the Vidhan Sabha session generally extends to 8 days or 6 days.
“In most of the states, the Vidhan Sabha session does not go on for 10 days but there is a tradition of Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha and it has been kept active by the Speaker. The Speaker has the responsibility to listen to the government as well as the opposition. He said and we all pondered over it. We are happy that in this 10-day monsoon session, if the opposition raises issues of people it would be helpful for governance,” he added.
The ten-day monsoon session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly began on Tuesday, marked by a ceremonial start as Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu arrived at the Vidhan Sabha early in the morning. Upon his arrival, the Chief Minister was accorded a guard of honour, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshvardhan Chauhan warmly welcomed him to the Assembly premises.
The Chief Minister also expressed his disappointment over the absence of opposition members from the all-party meeting. “The opposition can engage in politics as much as they like, but I question why they chose not to attend the all-party meeting. They will have to answer for this absence, and it is certainly not the right approach,” he remarked, urging the opposition to participate actively in the session.
The opposition, led by Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, was notably aggressive from the outset, signalling their intent to challenge the government on multiple issues throughout the session. Thakur emphasized that the opposition was fully prepared to bring up several important matters, including law and order, corruption, and the government’s unmet promises to the public.
Thakur further criticized the Congress government for failing to honour its guarantees to the public. “The opposition had already said that the Congress will not be able to fulfil the guarantee even in 10 births, which is being proved right somewhere today,” he remarked.
He also questioned why the government, which claims to be struggling for economic growth, made promises it could not keep, adding that state employees now realize the benefits they had under the previous BJP government. (ANI)
