Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], September 20 (ANI): People from all walks of life took out a torch rally from South Kolkata Highland Park to North Kolkata Shyamabazar demanding justice for the trainee doctor in the RG Kar rape and murder case.

The protesters carried out the rally holding torches and slogans displaying a call for justice in the gruesome rape and murder case.

Earlier in the day, the West Bengal Junior Doctors Front held a protest march from Swasthya Bhawan in Kolkata’s Salt Lake area to the CGO complex, demanding the CBI to fast-track the investigation in the rape and murder case.
Junior doctors on Friday said that they are calling off the protest due to the flood situation in West Bengal but the agitations over RG Kar rape and murder case will continue in all medical colleges and hospitals.
In a press conference outside the CBI office in Kolkata, West Bengal Junior Doctors Front said that they will serve in flood-affected areas from Saturday.
“We are stopping our sit-in protest due to the flood situation. We will serve in flood-affected areas from tomorrow, but our protest will not stop. We will continue this in all medical colleges & hospitals. We will see till the next Supreme Court hearing. If we don’t get justice, we will start our protest again,” said the West Bengal Junior Doctors Front.
“We will see till the next Supreme Court hearing. If we don’t get justice, we will start our protest again,” it added.
After West Bengal, Chief Secretary Manoj Pant assured safety and security implementations, agreeing to the demands of the protesting junior doctors, the West Bengal Junior Doctors Front decided to call off their strike on Friday.
The strike that has been underway for more than 40 days against the rape-murder incident that took place at RG Kar hospital in Kolkata will finally come to an end, said junior doctors; however, emergency services will resume but OPD services will remain suspended.
Earlier, on September 10, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court remanded Sandip Ghosh and three others to judicial custody till September 23 in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital financial irregularities case.
The Anti-Corruption Branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Sandip Ghosh on September 2.
Ghosh was under investigation for alleged corruption and financial irregularities at the college and hospital, following a directive from a single bench of the Calcutta High Court, which ordered the CBI to probe the matter.
Earlier on August 26, the CBI also concluded a second round of polygraph tests on Dr Ghosh as part of their investigation into the rape-murder of a woman doctor at the institution.
A woman trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. (ANI)
