Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], October 1 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday paid tributes to the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on the eve of their birth anniversaries.
In his message issued on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, the Chief Minister said, Gandhiji played an important role in liberating the country from British rule.
“Mahatma Gandhi fought for India’s independence and equality,” CM Dhami said.
He stressed the importance of education and social reform. He said that Gandhi Jayanti allows us to draw inspiration from his philosophy of life.
The Uttarakhand CM also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on the occasion of his birth anniversary. In his message on the eve of Shastri ji’s birth anniversary, the Chief Minister said that by giving the slogan ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’, he showed the nation the way to stand firmly with self-respect and unity.
“Lal Bahadur Shastri was a true son of Mother India, who dedicated his life to the independence of the country. Shastriji set an amazing example of simplicity, integrity, dedication, morality and dedication to the nation in public life. His reputation of honesty and high ideals will always inspire us,” CM Dhami added.
Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated every year to mark the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi who is also known to be the ‘Father of the nation’. The whole nation pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on this day and it is marked as a national holiday.
Born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar town of Gujarat, Mahatma Gandhi or Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi adopted a non-violent resistance and was at the forefront of the freedom struggle against colonial British rule with utmost patience. This led to India finally achieving its independence in 1947.
Born in Uttar Pradesh in 1904, Lal Bahadur Shastri was the second Prime Minister of India and served from 1964 to 1966. He died in Tashkent on January 11, 1966, at the age of 61, soon after signing the Tashkent Pact with Pakistan.
Former PM Shastri was a great visionary leader, who understood people’s language and who led the country towards progress. Shastri Ji was deeply influenced by the political teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. (ANI)
