New Delhi [India], July 10 (ANI): Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday participated in a felicitation ceremony in the national capital for implementing in the State the Uniform Civil Code, which aims among other things towards ensuring the safety of youth in live-in relationships.
CM talked about the provision made for registration regarding live-in relationships. He told ANI that this provision is made to ensure that the parents of the couple are aware of the relationship.
He said “A lot of journalists asked me why has a provision of registration been introduced regarding live-in. I said that provision for registration has been introduced so that their parents know about it.”
Dhami said, “Many times when the relationship turns sour and the couple do not share a good bond between them, there have been many cases where murders and other crimes take place”.
He said that when these kinds of crimes take place then the parents are left with nothing but only regret.
“Our first priority behind this provision is to ensure the security of the youth who enter into live-in relationships”, he said.
CM said that this provision will also help to maintain law and order in the state.
On February 7, 2024, the Legislative Assembly of Uttarakhand passed the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill. On March 13, the bill was granted assent by President Droupadi Murmu.
