Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 5 (ANI): A chlorine gas leak at the Malkhan Singh District Hospital in Aligarh triggered panic on Wednesday, officials said.
The gas leaked from a cylinder that had been lying unused for about 14-15 years, said an official, adding that the health department immediately informed the fire brigade and police administration about the incident.
Shortly after, the fire brigade team and officers reached the spot and rushed the people to safety, and no casualties were reported.
Fire brigade officer Sanjeev Kumar arrived at the Malkhan Singh District Hospital along with the fire services upon receiving information about the gas leak.
The official shared details about the incident and said that two chlorine cylinders were kept in the store, one of which was leaking. It has been dissolved by the fire brigade. There is no report of any casualties. The situation is under control.”
“These were old cylinders that were not in use. One had gas and the other was empty. There has been no such accident and no one has been affected by this gas leak but there was panic in the hospital since chlorine is a dangerous gas and is not flammable,” he said.
The fire officer further said, “Two fire tenders reached the site and we dissolved the chlorine gas by continuously pumping them, which took about an hour.”
Chief Medical Officer Neeraj Tyagi also gave information about the same and said, “There was information about the leakage of a chlorine cylinder kept in the store here. As soon as the information was received, immediately all the patients nearby were shifted to another place by the fire brigade team, administrative team, hospital team, and the fire department team.”
The gas leak has been completely controlled by the fire department team and no casualties have been reported, he said. (ANI)
