Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], July 10 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Minister Indar Singh Parmar announced on Wednesday that uniforms would soon be implemented in government colleges in the state.
Minister Parmar stated that initially, the uniforms would be introduced in Government Excellence Colleges and later expanded to all government colleges in the state.
“When the National Education Policy (NEP) was implemented in our country, Madhya Pradesh was among the leading states to adopt it. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, we have decided to establish Excellence Colleges in all 55 districts of the state. Our Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate these colleges on July 14 from Indore. Consequently, a process is underway in the department to implement uniforms. We aim to introduce the uniform soon by reaching a consensus,” Parmar told ANI.
“Initially, we will implement uniforms in these 55 Excellence Colleges, but later, we will gradually expand the policy step by step, achieving consensus in the remaining colleges,” he said.
He further added that they would consider all factors to implement an ideal dress code without causing objections from any section of society.
“We will create a positive environment in these colleges, involving all sections of society and all students. We will explain the importance of a dress code and use it to maintain the identity, equality, and discipline of the colleges, as well as to control outside elements. I believe everyone will agree, and we will find a good solution that yields positive results,” the minister added.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Arif Masood said that he had no objection to implementing uniforms, but if the policy targeted the hijab or reflected the state BJP government’s intentions regarding it, he would oppose it.
“We have no objection to implementing a dress code. But if it concerns the hijab and the state government’s intentions regarding it, then it is wrong, and we will oppose it. In my opinion, it should be optional. If someone wears a hijab in the same color as the dress code, they should be allowed. If the state government does this, we will support it,” Masood said. (ANI)
