New Delhi [India], July 2 (ANI): Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai has urged people to join the plantation drive, noting that it will take place between July 11 and August 9 at 30 different places in the national capital.
He said nearly two crore saplings have been planted in the last four years.
“The monsoon has begun. From July 11 to August 9, in 30 different places in Delhi, a tree plantation drive will take place and plants will be distributed… We request the people to join the drive. Different agencies have been given the task of planting trees,” Gopal Rai told ANI.
He said saplings will also be distributed free.
Gopal Rai said earlier in the day in a press conference that the government working to make Delhi greener.
“Under the leadership of (Chief Minister) Arvind Kejriwalji, the government is consistently working. Four-and-a-half years ago, Arvind Kejriwal guaranteed the people of Delhi that we will plant five crore saplings in Delhi. For the last four years, we have completed the goal of planting two crore saplings.”
“We had a meeting with all the agencies. It was decided that the government would try to plant 64 lakh saplings in 2024,” Rai said.
After an intense heat wave, the national capital received the highest rainfall in 88 years last month. (ANI)
