Nagpur (Maharashtra) [India], September 29 (ANI): Tushar Gandhi, great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, embarked on the ‘Samvidhan Satyagraha Padyatra’ from Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur on Monday. He said that the protest march will carry the message of love against the “politics of hatred” by the Sangh Parivar organisations.
The march will conclude at Sevagram Ashram in Wardha on October 2 – the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti.
Maharashtra Congress President Harshwardhan Sapkal also joined the padyatra (march).
Tushar Gandhi alleged that the “communal hatred” spread by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its affiliated organisations threatened the unity of the country. He said that his padayatra was aimed at strengthening and protecting the Constitution.
“We are doing Satyagraha Padyatra to strengthen and protect the Constitution. We are carrying the message of love against the hatred spread in the society and politics by the Sangh and its affiliates because if hatred increases, it would be adverse for the unity of the country,” Tushar Gandhi told ANI.
Maharashtra Congress President Harshwardhan Sapkal said that the Padyatra will challenge “the divisive foundations laid by the RSS regarding untouchability and discrimination.”
“We are taking out this Padyatra to challenge the divisive foundations laid by the RSS regarding untouchability and discrimination. It aims to engage all Indians in upholding the Constitution and the principles of truth and non-violence,” Sapkal told ANI.
Ahead of the Padyatra, a torch march was taken out in Nagpur on Sunday. The Maharashtra Congress chief, along with many of his party workers, participated in the march.
In July this year, Tushar Gandhi conducted “Badlo Bihar Nai Sarkar” (Change Bihar, New Government) programme targeting the NDA government in the State.
Stressing the need for change in Bihar, Tushar Gandhi had called on everyone to strengthen the INDIA bloc, as there is a “considerable dissatisfaction” among the people of Bihar with the present government.
Speaking to ANI, Tushar Gandhi had said, “Nitish ji has been in politics for 20 long years. He has enjoyed power in many ways. But now, change is necessary. Change is inevitable in a democracy. Nitish Kumar vapis ek baar ghar vapsi bhi kar lein, toh bhi acha hoga. We call everyone to strengthen the INDIA (alliance).”
“In the INDIA (alliance), there has been a tradition from the beginning that the Chief Minister is decided after the election results. We have become addicted to contesting elections with a particular face. We must remember that we have chosen the model of party democracy, where the leader is selected only after the results,” he further said.
The Bihar Assembly election is scheduled to take place later this year. (ANI)
