Agartala (Tripura) [India], June 1 (ANI): In a significant breakthrough, the Tripura police have arrested Babul Miah, one of the state’s most wanted drug peddlers, after a prolonged search. Miah, who had been absconding for a considerable period, was apprehended on Friday night from his in-laws’ house in a remote border area under Kalamcherra Police Station of Sepahijala district.
The arrest was made following an intensive search operation led by the police, which culminated in locating Miah in the secluded area. According to Rana Chatterjee, Officer-in-Charge of Bishalgarh Police Station in Sepahijala District, the police had been actively pursuing Babul Miah, who was wanted in connection with a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case registered in 2023 under Section 109.
“By a vigorous search to trace out the most wanted drug peddler, namely Babul Miah, who was absconding for long having been accused under the NDPS Act in 2023, we succeeded in arresting him from a remote border area under Kalamcherra Police Station and handed him over to our custody. He is booked under Section 109 of the NDPS Act and shall be taken on police remand,” OC Chatterjee told ANI.
This arrest marks a significant achievement in the ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the region.
Further investigations are underway to uncover more details about Miah’s operations and his network. (ANI)
