New Delhi [India], July 30 (ANI): Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar on Wednesday criticised the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for protesting against the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in poll bound Bihar, alleging that the party is supporting to the protest because they want to save their vote bank which mainly consists of “Rohingyas and Bangladeshis.”
“TMC has always done this because they know their vote bank consists of Rohingya and Muslims who came from Bangladesh, just so that those people’s names not be cut they are doing this,” the Union Minister told ANI.
He called for the Election Commission to take note of the repeated allegations being raised, saying that even when the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was in power in West Bengal, they had questioned the validity of Election Commission (EC).
“I think the Election Commission should take note of this because earlier, when CPI(M) was in power, they too had raised questions about the Election Commission. That time, the leader of CPM’s Bengal chapter, Biman Bose and others had questioned the EC. That time, the EC sent a show cause notice to All India General Secretary, asking him to clarify on the remarks,” Majumdar said.
The TMC has been alleging that Bengali Indians have been mistreated in Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled states. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also taken out a rally in the state to assure migrants out of Bengal of all the support from the government. Recently, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Bengal CM also traded barbs over the alleged mistreatement of Bengalis.
Earlier today, TMC leaders also joined in on the INDIA bloc protesting against the Bihar SIR. The party has been separately protesting for a few days against the alleged mistreatment of Bengalis in other states; however, today, they joined the larger protest while the other MPs held caricature posters criticising the Election Commission (EC).
During the protest, multiple Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, her daughter Priyanka Gandhi, Pramod Tiwari, Manickam Tagore also joined the protest at Parliament Makar Dwar.
The SIR cartoon portrayed a man labelled “EC” dressed in uniform and shackled, holding what resembles an EVM (Electronic Voting Machine), with a speech bubble saying “YES SIR.” (ANI)
