North Dinajpur (West Bengal) [India], July 9 (ANI): Ahead of Raiganj by-polls in West Bengal, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Manas Kumar Ghosh hit out at the Trinamool Congress for fielding Krishna Kalyani from the constituency, saying that the ruling party wants to “feed expired medicine” to people.
“People of Raiganj have given their mandate to a person to be their MLA from 2021 to 2026, but to get to newer heights, that person fought Lok Sabha elections, the people of Raiganj have rejected that person. The person who was rejected by the people of Raiganj, the TMC wants ‘to feed an expired medicine’ to the people. The people of Raiganj won’t accept that person again…,” Ghosh said speaking to ANI on Tuesday.
Along with the other three seats in West Bengal (90-Ranaghat Dakshin,94-Bagda(SC),167-Maniktala) “35-Raiganj” by-elections are scheduled to be held on July 10.
Krishna Kalyani who was BJP’s Member of Legislative Assembly(MLA) got 79,775 votes in 2021 polls. However, he joined the Trinamool Congress and became the party candidate for Lok Sabha elections 2024.
Kalyani lost the seat in the Lok Sabha polls and BJP’s candidate Kartik Chandra Paul won the seat. As a result, Krishna Kalyani resigned and following the guidelines, the Election Commission is conducting by-elections for the Raiganj Assembly seat along with other three seats in the state.
Krishna Kalyani got the ticket from Trinamool Congress and is contesting against BJP’s North Dinajpur Vice president and candidate Manas Kumar Ghosh in Raiganj Assembly by-elections.
On the other hand, former MLA of Raiganj and Indian National Congress candidate Mohit Sengupta, who has won the seat twice is also contesting from the seat.
Around 2,06,900 voters will cast their votes across 212 polling stations, divided into 18 sectors in the bypolls.
Sixteen companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed to conduct the polls in a peaceful manner. Around 1050 polling personnel will be engaged to conduct the polls. (ANI)
