New Delhi [India], July 2 (ANI): After the Lok Sabha witnessed a ruckus on Tuesday with the opposition demanding Prime Minister Modi to speak on Manipur, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the Congress party has shamed the country’s parliamentary system and they did not give a chance to their MP from Manipur to speak.
“Congress party has shamed the country’s parliamentary system today. They did not give the chance to their MP from Manipur to speak. After Rahul Gandhi’s 90-minute speech, they could have given the chance to their leader from Manipur. The Congress party was not ready to listen to the truth. They hatched a conspiracy to disrupt the speech of the Prime Minister. No matter how much the Leader of the Opposition’s behaviour yesterday is condemned is not enough,” Pradhan said.
“We expect the Congress party to restrain its behaviour in the interest of the country’s democracy. PM Modi spoke about NEET today. The President had mentioned NEET in his speech and today the Prime Minister also mentioned it. Tomorrow there will be a discussion in the Rajya Sabha as well,” he added.
The Opposition which has returned to the 18th Lok Sabha with strength, continuously raised louder slogans of “Manipur, Manipur”, “Tanashahi nahin chalegi (We won’t allow dictatorship) with table thumping as soon as PM Modi started speaking in the Lok Sabha.
The Speaker even expressed his displeasure with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, saying his behaviour as Leader of the Opposition is not according to parliamentary traditions.
Speaker said Rahul Gandhi had given directions to opposition members to come to the well of the House.
“This is wrong,” Birla said.
Meanwhile, Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die on Tuesday after the House adopted the motion of thanks on the President’s address following the reply to the debate by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
After the conclusion of PM Modi’s reply to the debate, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh moved a motion in the House condemning the behaviour of opposition members.
He said the opposition members have violated the parliamentary traditions.
Speaker Om Birla said the conduct of opposition members was not in accordance with the parliamentary traditions. He emphasised that the House runs according to rules and will do so.
Home Minister Amit Shah supported the motion moved by Rajnath Singh which was adopted by the House by voice vote. (ANI)
