Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], March 20 (ANI): BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul on Thursday slammed the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal, demanding the President’s rule in the State as there is “complete lawlessness” under the TMC regime.
Paul’s comments echoed West Bengal LoP and BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari’s statement, in which he called for President’s Rule in West Bengal, citing “complete lawlessness” in the state. Adhikari expressed concerns that if the current situation persists, free and fair elections may not be possible by 2026.
“We need the President’s rule in West Bengal because there is complete lawlessness here. If this situation persists, I don’t think we can have a fair election by 2026. To have a fair election for all the parties, we need President’s Rule in West Bengal,” Paul told ANI.
BJP MLAs have staged a protest outside the Assembly Gate against State Legislative Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee, alleging that Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay is stifling opposition voices in the assembly. Paul claimed that she and her colleagues were heckled and that the Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, was attacked when they visited the Baruipur assembly.

“We are protesting because the Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay (Biman Banerjee), who belongs to the Baruipur assembly, has not been allowing us to speak inside the assembly… Yesterday, when we went to the Baruipur assembly, we were heckled… Our LoP was attacked… Only Mamata Banerjee’s constitution is applicable here in West Bengal… We will continue our protests if our people are tortured and our rights are hampered,” Paul said.
On Wednesday, West Bengal leader of Opposition and BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari claimed that there was no democracy in Bengal after Trinamool Congress workers showed a black flag and raised slogans of ‘Go Back’ to BJP MLAs at Baruipur on Wednesday.
Suvendu Adhikari said, “We are being attacked. There is no democracy in Bengal.”
BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul said that they were being shown a black flag because they were with Sanatan Hindus.
“We are being shown the black flag because we are with Sanatan Hindus. We are also with nationalist Muslims. If they (TMC workers) think that we will be intimidated by showing black flags or shouting ‘go back’ slogans, then they should know that the BJP is not like that. We (BJP) will raise our voices against the injustice that is happening. Police Minister is Mamata Banerjee, and this is being done on her orders. If we talk about the people of Bengal we are suspended. Police are just silently watching,” she alleged.
Earlier Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday lashed out at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, calling her “illiterate” and accusing her of insulting the country’s daughter, Sunita Williams.
Adhikari’s outburst came after Banerjee allegedly referred to the Indian-American astronaut as “Sunita Chawla” instead of Sunita Williams.
Adhikari also mentioned a past incident in which Banerjee supposedly claimed that Rakesh Roshan and Indira Gandhi went to the moon. He termed this “shameful” and criticized Banerjee for changing Williams’ name.
“The CM is saying the wrong things. She is an illiterate Chief Minister. She took the name of Sunita Chawla instead of Sunita Williams. This is an insult to the daughter of our country. Earlier, the CM said Rakesh Roshan and Indira Gandhi went to the moon. It is shameful that the West Bengal CM changed the name of Sunita Williams,” said Adhikari. (ANI)
