Medchal (Telangana) [India], October 6 (ANI): Congress leaders, including MPs and MLAs, have convened a meeting with farmers at Nagole here to discuss the Musi Riverfront Development Project.
The meeting aimed to raise awareness among farmers about the significance of the project, which is crucial for the agricultural community in the region, Congress leaders said.
“Today, MLAs and MPs from the areas through which the Musi River flows met farmers to discuss the importance of the Musi project. Over one lakh acres of farming are happening under Musi project land, spanning six to seven Assembly constituencies,” Congress MP Kiran Kumar Chamala told ANI on Saturday.
He said severe pollution is affecting the river, noting that it is contaminated with drainage and industrial waste.
“At the end of the day, Musi needs rejuvenation. This is the message we want to convey to our farmers. We plan to take this initiative to the grassroots level, reaching villages and ensuring that farmers understand the importance of restoring the Musi River,” he added.
The Musi Riverfront Development Project, proposed by the Telangana government, aims to revitalise the 55-kilometre stretch of the polluted Musi River, restoring its ecosystem and surrounding areas while promoting economic growth through strategic riverfront development.
Meanwhile, Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) Working President KT Rama Rao on Monday criticised the Musi River Rejuvenation Project, saying, “1 lakh people are about to be homeless,” mentioning the demolition that is going to take place.
KTR, resisting the project, alleged that CM Revanth Reddy “wants to earn money.”
“Today in Hyderabad, an atmosphere has set in near the Musi river. Around 1 lakh people are about to be homeless. A team of the senior leaders of BRS is here in Hyderguda to understand their pain. We will then go to Kishanguda as well. We will go to Kishan Bagh too. We would like to ask one thing about Revanth Reddy’s government. You had said that you would implement 6 guarantees within 100 days. What happened to it?” KTR said
“We would want to warn Revanth Reddy government that you can do whatever you want. But BRS stands with the poor, the helpless. We will face your bulldozers, we will not let your plan to render people homeless go through…You will have to withdraw this proposal,” KTR added.
KTR further criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for advocating against ‘bulldozer raj’ saying, “Is your policy different for Haryana & UP and something else for Telangana? Come to Hyderabad, to Moosa River and tell people about the conduct of Revanth Reddy.” (ANI)
