Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], October 1 (ANI): BJP’s Punjab state affairs in-charge and former Gujarat CM, Vijay Rupani on Tuesday put an end to the speculation surrounding BJP Punjab chief Sunil Jakhar’s resignation, saying the leader has not resigned and that party will be contesting the upcoming elections in Punjab under his leadership.
Speaking to media, after chairing a meeting here to take stock of preparedness related to the upcoming panchayat and four assembly by-polls in Punjab, Rupani said, “The news circulating is nothing but a rumour. Sunil Jakhar went to Delhi for personal reasons, which is why he couldn’t attend today’s meeting. He is our President, and under his leadership we are contesting the upcoming elections in Punjab.”
This comes after Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar skipped a crucial meeting of the state unit in Chandigarh on Monday, giving fresh impetus to swirling speculation about his resignation.
The meeting was chaired by senior BJP leader Vijay Rupani, who told reporters that Jakhar was away in Delhi on a personal visit and that the forthcoming panchayat polls and bye-elections to four assembly seats would be held under Jakhar’s leadership.
Earlier last week, Jakhar did not attend another meeting of the state unit, fuelling conjecture that he had resigned from his post.
Meanwhile, a meeting was called at the residence of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Jagat Prakash Nadda on Monday for discussing the Delhi Assembly elections. This meeting lasted for about half an hour.
Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP Organisation General Secretary BL Santosh, Delhi BJP State President Virendra Sachdeva, former Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri and Pravesh Verma were also present in the meeting.
A source in the BJP told ANI that putting forward the issues of unauthorised colonies in Delhi, slums, water problems, electricity bills, etc. and bringing the truth about Delhi’s Aam Aadmi Party government and the corruption done by them in front of the public was also discussed in today’s meeting, said sources.
According to sources, in the meeting, the high command has directed to make a road map for the preparation of Delhi Assembly elections within 7 days.
Instructions have been given to bring the merits of the central government to the public and to make a strategy to win the assembly elections.
According to sources, strategies like exposing the shortcomings and corruption of Arvind Kejriwal in front of the public and bringing the achievements of the central government in front of the people of Delhi as much as possible have been discussed. (ANI)
