New Delhi [India], July 12 (ANI): Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj planted a sapling as part of a plantation drive in the national capital on Friday and urged everyone to plant as many trees as possible to protect the environment.
“Students from schools around Greater Kailash have come here and all of them are planting trees. I hope that this experience will remain with them for the rest of their lives and they will understand the importance of trees. Especially in Delhi where the temperature has now reached 52 degrees. If you want to protect the weather of Delhi, if you want to protect the environment, then there is only one way, we should plant as many trees as possible, spread as much greenery as possible,” he said.
“Around 600 students have come here. I think that if every student plants one tree, at least 600 trees will be planted. This event of ours is going on continuously,” he added.
Earlier on July 2, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai urged people to join the plantation drive, noting that it will take place between July 11 and August 9 at 30 different places in the national capital.
He said nearly two crore saplings have been planted in the last four years.
“The monsoon has begun. From July 11 to August 9, in 30 different places in Delhi, a tree plantation drive will take place and plants will be distributed… We request the people to join the drive. Different agencies have been given the task of planting trees,” Gopal Rai told ANI.
The minister recalled that the Delhi govt had set a target of planting two crore trees in five years to improve the environment of Delhi, and the target was achieved in the fourth year of its tenure itself.
Meanwhile, as part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign the students of Hillwoods Academy, Preet Vihar, Delhi planted and pledged to protect trees and Mother Earth towards the conservation of the environment and combating climate change. (ANI)
