Nagaur (Rajasthan) [India], June 4 (ANI): As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) saw a significant dip in the number of seats in Rajasthan from the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) President Hanuman Beniwal took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi claiming that people “shattered” the arrogance of the latter and his party, BJP.
“The people of Rajasthan have shattered the arrogance of PM Modi and the BJP. The people have shown him the strength of farmers and the Jawans. The INDIA bloc fought unitedly and dented the BJP’s slogan of ‘400 paar‘”, Beniwal said in a conversation with ANI.
“The people of the state gave a clear message to the entire country that they are ready to teach a lesson to the arrogant government,” he added.
The RLP leader further claimed that the farmers of the state had voted against the government’s ‘anti-farmer’ policies while the Jawans voted against the ‘Agniveer‘ scheme.
“The farmers of the state voted against the government’s ‘anti-farmer’ policies while the Jawans voted against the ‘Agniveer’ scheme. We will work on the unfinished projects which include railways and roads,” Beniwal said.
The RLP leader, who fought from the Nagaur constituency, was leading with 41,156 votes. Pitted against him was BJP’s Jyoti Mirdha who was trailing behind, at the time of filing this report.
The RLP and the Congress party are allies in the INDIA bloc.
The BJP has suffered a massive setback in the Hindi heartland of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. While it secured all 25 seats in Rajasthan in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, it is currently leading on 14 seats in the state, as per the latest trends by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
As per the latest data from the Election Commission, the NDA is leading on 292 seats while the INDIA bloc is ahead on 233 seats with the others leading on 17 seats.
The BJP-led NDA appears far from its target of “400 paar” with the BJP falling behind a simple majority in Lok Sabha, according to the latest trends.
The BJP had won a majority on its own in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha polls. It won 282 seats in 2014 and improved its tally to 303 seats in 2019 elections. The BJP had set a target of winning 370 seats in the 2024 general elections.
The BJP-led NDA, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, fought Lok Sabha elections for a third straight term in office.
The Lok Sabha polls were held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1. (ANI)
