Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 6 (ANI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday said that the Mahayuti government must work together to prepare for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state, and ensure that the opposition does not get an opportunity to spread fake narratives.
He made the remarks while attending a meeting of state-level grand alliance officebearers regarding government plans and implementation.
Addressing the meeting, Shinde said, “We have to work together for upcoming elections as Mahayuti because this government is only for people. We have to work and not give a single chance to them (opposition) to spread any fake narratives.”
Mahayuti alliance comprises the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, the Bharatiya Janata Party, and the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party.
Slamming Uddhav Thackeray on his Facebook live, Shinde said, “We work face to face and not work from home. I want to say this to all our workers, that give answers to their (Opposition) fake narratives. Tell the public about our schemes and advantages. Tell them that this budget scheme will benefit them, it was not only for elections, it will continue after elections too.”
Notably, the Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled to be held this year to elect 288 members of the state’s legislative assembly.
As per the Election Commission of India, the BJP bagged nine seats this time against 23 in the 2019 LS polls; the Shiv Sena secured seven seats while the NCP managed to win one seat in Maharashtra in Lok Sabha elections.
Congress fought the election as part of the INDIA bloc and the parties together were able to prevent BJP from getting a majority on its own in Lok Sabha. The BJP-led NDA won 293 in the polls.
In the Lok Sabha polls in 2024, the BJP did not cross the majority mark, bagging 240 seats. The Congress, on the other hand, registered a strong improvement, winning 99 seats. While the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance won 293 seats, the INDIA bloc crossed the 230 mark, posing stiff competition, and defying all predictions. (ANI)
