Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], July 15 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi on Monday held a meeting with the Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board in the Secretariat and gave strict instructions regarding e-waste management in the state.
After meeting, she instructed all government and non-government organisations to strictly make proper arrangements for solid waste management and medical waste disposal.
Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board is going to issue notices to all those government departments that have unnecessarily accumulated e-waste, like unusable old computers, printers, scanners, and mobiles.
During the meeting of the Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board in the Secretariat, Chief Secretary Radha Raturi gave strict instructions regarding e-waste management.
Radha Raturi has given strict instructions to all government and non-government organizations to develop an effective system for solid waste management and medical waste disposal. She has especially given strict instructions to the government departments not to commit any kind of negligence in this regard.
Along with this, the Chief Secretary has instructed that hand gloves, masks, gumboots should be immediately made available to the sanitation workers engaged in the work of solid waste management and disposal.
Regarding the use of the Environmental Compensation Fund, Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has given instructions to create infrastructure facilities for the collection, storage, transportation, and processing of solid waste under solid waste management, production of bio-fertilizers through NADEP pits, encourage mass cleanliness drives, make arrangements for collection and disposal of sanitary waste and domestic hazardous waste and conduct training programs for ragpickers regarding solid waste management.
Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has given instructions for regular inspection of industrial units under plastic waste management. She has also given instructions for transportation, recycling, and disposal of confiscated SUP. Along with this, CS has given instructions to reward and encourage such individuals, NGOs and institutions who are working for plastic waste management.
Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has given instructions to develop an effective surveillance system regarding biomedical waste management. Along with this, she has given instructions to organize training and awareness programs for paramedical personnel regarding the segregation, storage, and disposal of biomedical waste.
Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has given instructions to organize skill development and awareness programs for such people under Hazardous waste management who handle, recycle, and pre-process hazardous waste. She has also given instructions to assess potential hazardous waste-contaminated sites.
Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has given instructions to establish and upgrade the processing unit of construction and demolition waste under Construction and Demolition Waste Management.
Radha Raturi has given instructions regarding the treatment of domestic wastewater that decentralized wastewater treatment systems should be promoted as much as possible. Along with this, community sanitary complexes should also be encouraged. She has given instructions to encourage the use of treated water for purposes other than drinking.
Regarding industrial wastewater, the Chief Secretary has given instructions that gap funding should be used for the establishment of common treatment plants. For the revival of water sources, CS has directed that tree plantation should be promoted in floodplain zones. She directed special efforts to recharge underground water. Along with this, Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has directed to strengthen the air quality monitoring network for effective control of air pollution. (ANI)
