Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], May 27 (ANI): After the BJP-led Rajasthan government announced its intention to review 14 Muslim groups on the OBC list, former state CM Ashok Gehlot said on Monday that not all Muslims avail reservations but those who are backward do so.
“No matter what the government says, nothing will happen. We have given reservations on the recommendations of the OBC Commission. Not all Muslims avail reservations but those who are backward do. Only those who used to come in OBC have got it,” Gehlot said while addressing a press conference.
Rajasthan social justice minister Avinash Gehlot said on Saturday that the Congress granted reservation to 14 Muslim castes under the OBC category and the state government will review them soon.
Overall in Rajasthan, there is 64 per cent reservation is given. 21 per cent is for OBCs, 16 per cent for SCs, 12 per cent for STs, 10 per cent for EWS and 5 per cent for Most Backward Classes.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya also highlighted the issue and said that his government will scrutinize the Other Backward Classes reservations given to Muslim communities in previous governments in the state.
“Congress, Samajwadi Party, TMC and other parties of INDIA always talk about the rights of OBC. But they always cheat them. OBC certificates in Bengal were given to infiltrators and Muslims in Bengal from 2010-2024. It was like a knife in the chest for the OBC community. Calcutta HC order should be implemented with immediate effect. In other states, similar investigations should be done. In Uttar Pradesh, we will also do a detailed review regarding it. We won’t allow anyone to snatch OBC reservations,” Keshav Prasad Maurya told ANI.
The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday cancelled all OBC certificates issued in West Bengal after 2010.
The court has directed the West Bengal Backward Classes Commission to prepare a new list of OBCs in accordance with the 1993 Act.
Those in the OBC list before 2010 will remain. However, all OBC nominations after 2010 were cancelled.
An estimated 5 lakh OBC certificates are set to be cancelled in light of the order.
After 2010, those who have jobs under the OBC quota or are in the process of getting them cannot be excluded from the quota. There will be no impact on their job and they cannot be excluded from the quota. (ANI)
