Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 7 (ANI): Heavy rains have caused severe waterlogging across Moradabad city, leading to dangerous water levels and forcing evacuations in severely affected areas like Bholenath Colony.
Boats provided by the administration are the only means of rescue for the residents. The biggest dangers are the insects, snakes, and scorpions.
On Sunday morning, Aarti, a resident of Bholenath Colony described how her family is unable to go out because of the flooding and is living in constant fear of insects. “We are living here with the constant fear of water entering our house. There are insects everywhere inside. We can only go out with the help of the boat, and there have been no rescue operations yet,” she said.
According to Mintu, one of the rescuers in Bholenath Colony, the water levels have risen to 7 feet. He further explained how the persistent conditions are forcing people to leave their homes. “There is 7 feet of water here. Several people are leaving because their homes have submerged. I come daily to rescue people. With more rain, both the water and danger levels in the area are rising,” he said.
Earlier, on July 3, visuals showed vehicles stuck on the waterlogged roads in the city, with people facing difficulties commuting from one place to another.
Navbharat, a student struggling to get to school due to the waterlogging, said, “My home is right across the lane. It has been very difficult to get transportation and go to school in this rain. There is excessive waterlogging everywhere. I had to take a holiday from school for the last two days due to the heavy rains.”
The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rainfall, with occasional intense spells accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, in areas of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and other states. (ANI)
