Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 16 (ANI): Speaking on the security arrangements in Uttar Pradesh during Muharram, Kirit Rathod, Joint CP Law and Order, said on Tuesday that, as per the meticulous planning, 12 companies of the Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC) and Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed.
“The month of Muharram is going on, and the processions are being carried out in different areas. Meticulous planning is being carried out. 12 companies of the PAC and RAF have been deployed. We are also monitoring the situation via drones, and our media cell is also keeping an eye on social media to make sure any rumors are not spread,” he said.
“We have already spoken to Maulanas, and peace committee meetings were also held. The required cooperation is being taken from them,” Rathod added.
Muharram holds significant religious importance for Shia Muslims. In India, the 7-8 crore Shia Muslim community, along with people of different religions, participate in large processions and tazias.
On July 14, in the meeting of the Uttar Pradesh BJP Working Committee, CM Yogi Adityanath said that any festival should be celebrated as per the rules made by the government.
“Remember, during Muharram, the roads used to be empty. Today, Muharram is being celebrated, it is not even known. In the name of Tajia, houses were demolished, peepal trees were cut, and wires were removed from the roads. Today, it is said that no poor person’s hut will be removed. Today it is said that the government will make rules, if you want to celebrate the festival, then celebrate it under the rules, otherwise, sit at home,” CM Yogi said.
Earlier in June, the All India Shia Personal Law Board wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged him to ensure better arrangements for the upcoming Muharram procession.
The board urged the Prime Minister to ensure security arrangements on the routes determined by the state governments so that untrue elements cannot disturb the law and order. (ANI)
