ast Khasi Hills (Meghalaya) [India], August 21 (ANI): Border Security Force troops in Meghalaya foiled attempts to smuggle sugar across the international border of Meghalaya with the arrest of an Indian national.
The accused was apprehended by the BSF on August 20 while he was trying to smuggle sugar to Bangladesh in East Khasi Hills district, Meghalaya.
“In a significant operation on 20th August 2024, alert troops of BSF Meghalaya successfully foiled a smuggling attempt by apprehending one Indian national along with Sugar Meant for smuggling to Bangladesh from the International Border of East Khasi Hills district, Meghalaya,” as per a press release from the BSF Meghalaya.
During the operation, an Indian National was apprehended with sugar bags loaded in a Mahindra pickup, intended for smuggling into Bangladesh.
“The apprehended individual and the seized sugar have been handed over to Pynursla Police Station, East Khasi Hills, for further legal proceedings,” the release stated.
On August 19, the Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya foiled an infiltration attempt along the International Border in the West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya. Three Bangladeshi nationals – two males and one female – along with three Indian facilitators were arrested. (ANI)
