Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], November 7 (ANI): Samajwadi Party’s Maharashtra president Abu Asim Azmi has accused the Mahayuti government of wasting money meant for public welfare on corruption.
Azmi also alleged that corruption worth Rs 70,000 crore has taken place during the tenure of the Mahayuti government and warned that more such cases may come to light.
The Mahayuti alliance includes Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Ajit Pawar-led (NCP) Nationalist Congress Party.
Speaking to reporters, Azmi said, “They (Mahayuti government) wasted all the money. All the money that was meant for work was wasted on corruption. Corruption of 70-70 thousand crores has happened and there will be many more corruption cases. If those corruption cases stop, a lot of money will come.”
Abu Azmi is a Samajwadi party candidate from the Mankhurd Shivajinagar assembly seat. He will contest the election against Suresh Patil from Shiv Sena and Nawab Malik from the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar).
NCP’s Mahayuti’s alliance partners, BJP and Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) have expressed their opposition to Malik’s candidature. Nawab Malik, however, has expressed confidence in his victory in the Mankhurd-Shivajinagar constituency.
With the Maharashtra Assembly elections approaching, political campaigning is gaining momentum across the state. Earlier, Baramati witnessed a high-profile battle in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, when Sunetra Pawar contested against Supriya Sule. The latter won the contest by 1.5 lakh votes.
The Maharashtra Assembly elections will take place on November 20, with the counting of votes for all 288 constituencies set for November 23.
In the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections, the BJP won 105 seats, Shiv Sena secured 56, and Congress 44. In 2014, the BJP won 122 seats, Shiv Sena 63, and Congress 42. (ANI)
