New Delhi [India], June 10 (ANI): Delhi Water Minister and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi on Monday said that she met with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena who has assured her that he will talk to the Haryana government over the water woes of the national capital.
The minister has been blaming the BJP government of Haryana for the water crisis in the city, accusing it of not giving Delhi its due share of water.
“Water level in the Wazirabad barrage has dropped and the Munak canal is receiving less water. We have requested LG Saxena to talk to the Haryana government concerning less water being released into the Munak canal,” Atishi told ANI after meeting with the Lt Governor.
She said that seven water treatment plants in Delhi depend on the Munak canal for water.
“LG has assured us that he will talk to the Haryana government. He has also assured that he will induct a single-charge officer to ensure that administrative work in the Delhi Jal Board is carried out adequately. He has assured that the lack of officers in the Delhi Jal Board will be sorted out,” Atishi said.
“We were supposed to receive water from Himachal Pradesh via Haryana but have not yet received it. We have received information from a Supreme Court affidavit that a water dispute is also going on between the Himachal Pradesh and Haryana governments,” she added.
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party on Monday accused the BJP government in Haryana of negative politics and asked the party-led Haryana government to release Delhi’s share of water.
AAP national spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said the Himachal Pradesh government is ready to release water for Delhi and the Haryana government has just to allow that water to flow into Delhi.
“The BJP needs to stop its negative politics and release Delhi’s share of water. The Supreme Court has also said that the Himachal Pradesh government is ready to give 137 cusecs of water to Delhi. Haryana has to only allow that water to flow from the Hathni Kund barrage to the Wazirabad barrage in Delhi,” Kakkar told ANI.
“The Haryana government also reduced 200 cusecs of the 1,050 cusecs of water that come to Delhi from another channel,” she added. (ANI)
