Patna (Bihar) [India], November 6 (ANI): As the whole nation is mourning the death of the legendary folk singer Sharda Sinha, Bihar’s major regional party Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and former CM Lalu Yadav’s family have joined in to condole the demise of the singer.
The party has issued an official statement and expressed grief over the demise of Sharda Sinha.
The statement reads, “The RJD family has expressed deep condolences on the demise of folk singer Kokila Padma Shri, Padma Vibhushan awarded and Sharda Sinha, who made a distinct identity with Chhath song and said that her demise has caused irreparable loss to Bihar and the field of folk singer. She had created a distinct identity through Chhath song.”
“On hearing the news of the demise of folk singer Sharda Sinha, RJD National President Lalu Prasad, former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, Bihar LoP Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, MP Misa Bharti, former Minister Tej Pratap Yadav, State President Jagdanand Singh, National Vice President Uday Narayan Chaudhary, State Spokesperson Ejaz Ahmed and other leaders have expressed deep condolences on the demise of folk singer, Purvanchal and Mithilanchal’s Nightingale Padma Shri, Padma Vibhushan Sharda Sinha ji,” the statement added.
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav took to X to pay tribute to her and prayed for the peace of the departed soul.
“Received the sad news of the demise of Smt. Sharda Sinha ji, daughter of Bihar, a famous singer honoured with Padmashree, Padma Vibhushan and who brought Chhath Puja to the masses through her melodious voice and songs. Praying to God to grant the departed soul a place in her lotus feet and provide strength and patience to the well-wishers and her family in this hour of grief. Her sweet voice will live on forever. My salutations and humble tributes to her. Om Shanti,” Yadav posted on X.
Expressing grief, RJD leader Mrityunjay Tiwari said that she left an “indelible mark” in the folk music industry.
He said, “The demise of renowned folk singer Sharda Sinha is extremely sad… She left an indelible mark in the country in folk singing…I pray to God that her soul may rest in peace…”
As Chhath festivities were initiated in Bihar, Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar emphasised that it is a coincidence that ‘Bihar’s daughter’ Sharda Sinha who gave Chhath recognition in the entire world, left the world on the same festival.
In a social media post on X, Kumar wrote, “It is a strange coincidence of life that the great festival of Chhath has started today and today we had to receive the sad news of the demise of Bihar’s daughter Sharda Sinha ji who gave Chhath recognition in the entire world through folk songs and her touching voice. Through her voice, she will always remain alive in folk culture and folk memory. My mind is stunned; I salute that great personality. In this hour of grief, the entire nation stands with their loved ones like a family.”
Earlier, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday condoled the demise of the renowned singer Sharda Sinha and termed her demise as an “irreparable loss” for the music world.
On her demise, Bihar CM issued a statement and prayed to the god for the ‘eternal peace’ of the soul and to provide strength to her family, fans and followers to bear the pain in this hour of grief.
Also known as the ‘Bihar Kokila,’ Sharda Sinha passed away on Tuesday at around 9.20 pm due to refractory shock as a result of ‘septicaemia’. She was battling with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer. She breathed her last at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi.
The 72-year-old Sinha, a music scene veteran since the 1970s, has contributed immensely to Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Hindi folk music and is celebrated for her soulful renditions of folk music. Known for her contributions to the traditional folk music of Bihar and her iconic Chhath geet, Sharda Sinha is considered a cultural ambassador of the region. (ANI)
