Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], August 11 (ANI): The Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA) will hold a protest against the death and sexual assault of a female post-graduate trainee doctor in Kolkata.
The safety of women doctors, who are part of the night duty and emergency department duty work, has always been a matter of concern, said KGMCTA.
It is the responsibility of the respective governments to create a safe working environment so that they can perform their work fearlessly. Not only is there laxity in ensuring that there are no lapses in security, but there is also a failure to find the real culprits as soon as possible, bring them to justice and ensure timely and correct punishment, said KGMCTA.
The KGMCTA is also joining the nationwide protest by doctors’ organisations demanding that the real culprits be arrested at the earliest and steps be taken to ensure safety at the workplace. It hereby informs that the same protest measures will be reflected in government medical colleges in Kerala if further agitational programmes are required in this regard, added the statement.
As part of this, medical teachers, PG doctors, house surgeons and medical students will organise protest programmes in all government medical colleges in Kerala at 10.30 am on Monday, said KGMCTA.
Meanwhile, doctors at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi held a protest on Saturday in support of the female post-graduate trainee (PGT) doctor who was found dead inside the seminar hall of the government-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal.
The protesting doctors were seen carrying posters and were heard sloganeering, “We want a CBI inquiry.”
Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Suvendu Adhikari, has also demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident. (ANI)
