Kannur (Kerala) [India], June 20 (ANI): Students marched to Kannur Head Post Office under the leadership of SFI to protest against the cancellation of the UGC NET exam on Thursday.
The Ministry of Education on Wednesday said that it had cancelled the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 18 across different cities of the country due to certain inputs from National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit that prima-facie indicates that the integrity of the UGC-NET June 2024 examination may have been compromised.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the UGC-NET June 2024 Examination in OMR (pen and paper) mode on June 18, in two shifts across different cities of the country.
“On 19th June, 2024, the University Grants Commission (UGC) received certain inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs on the Examination. These inputs prima-facie indicate that the integrity of the aforesaid examination may have been compromised,” the Ministry of Education said in a release.
To ensure the highest level of transparency and sanctity of the examination process, the Ministry of Education, Government of India has decided that the UGC-NET June 2024 Examination be cancelled, the Ministry of Education said
“A fresh examination shall be conducted, for which information shall be shared separately. Simultaneously, the matter is being handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (C.B.I.) for a thorough investigation in the matter,” the Ministry of Education added.
Rahul Gandhi said that the NEET issue & UGC-NET exam cancellation is happening because the “BJP has penetrated our education system and destroyed it”. He also called for the punishment of those responsible.
“It’s happening because all our institutions have been captured. Our Vice-Chancellors are placed not based on merit. But because they belong to a particular organization. And this organization and the BJP have penetrated our education system and destroyed it. What was done by Narendra Modi to the economy with demonetization, has now been done to the education system. The reason this is happening and the reason you’re suffering is because an independent, objective education system has been demolished…It is very important that the people who are guilty here are brought to book and they are punished,” he said.
Following the Ministry of Education’s decision to cancel the UGC-NET June 2024 exam, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) organised a protest outside Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s residence in Delhi concerning NEET and UGC-NET issues. The protesters were subsequently detained by the police.
Members of All India Students Association (AISA) also protested outside Shastri Bhawan over NEET and UGC-NET issues.
The protest against NEET-UG 2024 is due to widespread concerns about alleged paper leaks and the allocation of grace marks during the May 5 exam. The exam was conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) across 4,750 examination centers for approximately 24 lakh students. (ANI)
