Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 22 (ANI): Thousands of devotees took a holy dip in the river Ganga and offered prayers on the occasion of Jyeshtha Purnima at sacred places in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Saturday morning.
Devotees took a holy dip and offered prayers at the Sangam in Prayagraj.
Garh Mukteshwar in Hapur also witnessed a throng of devotees on the auspicious day.
A sea of devotees gathered at Har ki Pauri in Haridwar, Uttarakhand to take a bath on the occasion of the full moon.
A devotee in Har Ki Pauri said, “Today is Jyeshtha Purnima. This month is considered to be very auspicious. Thousands of devotees have arrived here to take a dip in holy Ganga. On this day Lord Satya Narayan is worshipped. On this day people usually donate food, clothes and utensils. People take a holy dip and seek for wishes to be fulfilled.”
On the full moon day of Hindu calender month of Jyeshtha month, bathing in the holy Ganga and giving alms is considered to be of special importance. It is believed that bathing, worship and fasting on this day brings blessings of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. This brings happiness and prosperity to the homes, wishes are fulfilled and sins are destroyed.
According to the belief engaging in such pious acts one also attains salvation after death. (ANI)
