Patna (Bihar) [India], November 6 (ANI): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday condoled the demise of the renowned singer Sharda Sinha and termed her demise as an “irreparable loss” for the music world.
On her demise, Bihar CM issued a statement and prayed to the god for the ‘eternal peace’ of the soul and to provide strength to her family, fans and followers to bear the pain in this hour of grief.
The statement reads, “Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed deep condolences on the demise of Bihar Kokila, Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awarded Sharda Sinha. In his condolence message, the Chief Minister said that Bihar Kokila Sharda Sinha was a famous folk singer. She also sang Hindi songs besides Maithili, Bajjika, Bhojpuri. She also gave her melodious voice in many Hindi films. For her contribution to the music world, the Government of India honored her with Padma Shri in 1991 and Padma Bhushan in 2018.”
The festivities for the Chhath Puja celebrations commenced on November 5, the first day of the festival, also known as ‘Nahaay-Khaye’. Sharda Sinha is specifically known for melodious ‘Chhath Mahaparv’ songs.
“The melodious songs sung in the melodious voice of late Sharda Sinha on Chhath Mahaparva resonate in all parts of the country including Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Her demise has caused irreparable loss in the field of music. The Chief Minister has prayed to God for eternal peace of the soul of late Sharda Sinha and to provide strength to her family, fans and followers to bear the pain in this hour of grief,” the statement from Bihar CMO reads.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha also said that her demise is an irreparable loss to the folk culture and heritage of Bihar as the festival of Chhath Puja is incomplete without her songs.
He also prayed for the peace of the departed soul.
“The demise of ‘Swar Kokila’ of Bihar is an irreparable loss to folk culture and heritage of Bihar. The festival of Chhath Puja is incomplete without the songs of Sharda Sinha…The festival of Chhath Puja got a new identity with the songs of Sharda Sinha…May her soul rest in peace…” he said.
Expressing grief, JD(U) leader Neeraj Kumar said that her demise is “very painful”. As she is best known for her ‘Chhath’ songs, he added that it’s a coincidence that the singer who spread the song ‘Chhathi Maiya’ to every household in the nation took her last breath on the occasion of ‘Nahay Khay’.
Neeraj Kumar said, “Her passing away is very painful…What a coincidence it is that the singer who spread the song ‘Chhathi Maiya’ to every household in the nation took her last breath on the occasion of ‘Nahay Khay’…”
Renowned folk singer, known as the ‘Bihar Kokila,’ Sharda Sinha passed away on Tuesday at around 9.20 pm due to refractory shock as a result of ‘septicaemia’.
Septicaemia is the medical name for blood poisoning. Sharda Sinha was battling with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, which was diagnosed in 2018. Her condition deteriorated on Monday, after which she was placed on a ventilator. She breathed her last at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi.
The 72-year-old Sinha, a music scene veteran since the 1970s, has contributed immensely to Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Hindi folk music and is celebrated for her soulful renditions of folk music.
Known for her contributions to the traditional folk music of Bihar and her iconic Chhath geet, Sharda Sinha is considered a cultural ambassador of the region. (ANI)
