Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], July 2 (ANI): An inter-state and inter-unit coordination meeting on Kanwar yatra was organised in the auditorium of Police Headquarters under the chairmanship of Abhinav Kumar, Director General of Police, Uttarakhand, in which officials from Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, CRPF, Railway Protection Force, Intelligence Bureau participated directly and online.
During the meeting held on Monday evening, the Director General of Police said in his address that the upcoming Kanwar Yatra is from July, 22 to August, 2. Kanwar is a very big religious event, in which not only Haridwar but also neighbouring districts and states face many challenges like law and order, crowd management, traffic management etc. He said that earlier this yatra used to affect only the state of Uttarakhand but now it also affects the other states of North India.
He said that the objective of this meeting is to ensure that the Kanwar Yatra is completed safely and peacefully with the cooperation of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Himachal, Punjab, Rajasthan and other agencies. After discussing everyone’s views, we have concluded that the sensitivity of the Kanwar Yatra has increased.
The DGP said that there is a need to keep a close watch on the posts being made on social media regarding the Kanwar Yatra, for this social media monitoring will be increased. He said that we have to make efforts to keep the Kanwariyas on the fixed route of the Kanwar Yatra so that there is no disruption in traffic on the highway. We all will collectively make efforts on this.
The DGP said that the Kanwar Yatra is a sacred religious journey, and its sacred form should be kept. Disturbance will not be tolerated in the name of Kanwar Yatra. (ANI)
