Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], July 9 (ANI): Defending the Enforcement Directorate’s move of approaching the Supreme Court and challenging Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s bail, BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo on Tuesday said that the central agency believes that there are parts of the judgement of the case, which the judges may have overlooked.
Soren who was accused in a land grabbing and money laundering case was granted bail and was released from the Birsa Munda jail on June 28.
The BJP spokesperson asserted that it the the right of any agency to move to a higher court if bail is granted to an accused.
“It is in the rights of an agency to move a higher court if a bail is allotted to an accused. The details are still awaited as to on what grounds the ED has moved, but anyone can move a court of appeal. Prima facie the ED thinks that there are parts of the judgement of the Jharkhand HC, which the judges may have overlooked,” BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah said.
“The excuses given by Hemant Soren for the recovery of Rs 36 lakhs in cash from his Delhi residence are untenable. As far as the courts are concerned, it is a technical and legal matter, but in the ‘Janta ki Adaalat’, Hemant Soren has already been held guilty of land grabbing,” he added.
Soren was arrested by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in January on charges related to an alleged land scam and money laundering.
The investigation concerns the purported generation of substantial proceeds through the forgery of official records, involving fake sellers and buyers to acquire large parcels of land worth crores.
Soren had resigned as Chief Minister following his arrest in the money laundering case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
Days after he was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand for the third time, Hemant Soren won the floor test during a special session of the state assembly on Monday. Hemant Soren won the vote of trust with the votes of 45 MLAs in his favour. He was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of Jharkhand in Raj Bhavan, Ranchi on July 4. (ANI)
