New Delhi [India] March 11 (ANI): Former Sri Lankan left-arm pacer Isuru Udana has expressed his views on the International Masters League 2025. He shared his experience playing in the league so far and felt “honoured” playing with his former teammates and legends from rival teams.
Udana has been the pick of the bowlers for the Sri Lanka Masters in the IML 2025. He has taken seven wickets with a slightly high economy of 9.20, making him the fifth-highest wicket-taker in IML.
When playing in the IML, Udana feels this is a very competitive tournament with a high class of players.
“I think it’s a perfect tournament. To be honest, the level of cricket is really, really competitive. When we look at the scorecards, the scores are quite high, and the wickets are excellent. Overall, it’s a fantastic tournament.” Isuru Udana said to IML.
When he played with former teammates and old rivals, he felt honoured to share the dressing room with Sri Lankan legends, especially Kumar Sangakkara. When talking about rivals, he mentioned Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara and said it was a privilege to play against them.
“For me, it’s a huge honour. Especially in our team, I got to share the dressing room again with Kumar Sangakkara. At the same time, on the other side, there are legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara. It’s a privilege to be playing alongside such greats,” he said.
When playing T20 cricket, he explained the rules that favour the batsman, especially in white ball cricket. He said shorter boundaries and the dew factor are also crucial factors that make bowling more challenging.
“In the shorter format, especially in white-ball cricket, most rules favor the batsmen. New regulations continue to make things tougher for bowlers. With factors like dew and shorter boundaries, it becomes even more challenging. For me, I just try to focus on my execution. I didn’t have a great game before the last one, but I stuck to my basics and planned well. I think I was able to execute my plans successfully,” he added.
On plans for the remaining IML matches, Isuru Udana spoke about their plans for the knockout. He said that Sri Lanka Masters wants to take the group stage momentum into the knockouts and play the game as they did in the group stages.
“We’ve already qualified for the semi-finals, but we still have one more group-stage game left. We aim to finish strong and carry that momentum into the knockout stage to give our best performance in the semi-finals.”
Sri Lanka Masters is currently on top of the table with four wins out of 5 matches. They only lost their first match against The India Masters. Kumar Sangakkara is the top scorer for Sri Lanka Masters, and Isuru Udana is the highest wicket-taker. Sri Lanka Masters has qualified for the semi-finals with one league game left. (ANI)
