New Delhi [India], June 5 (ANI): Labelling the Lok Sabha election results as a “big setback for BJP”, CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Wednesday said that the party’s call for “400 paar” has crumbled as they failed to clinch a majority.
He emphasized that the Lok Sabha result reflects the people’s desire for democracy and the prioritization of everyday issues.
Reflecting on the 2024 Lok Sabha election results, Yechury said, “This is a huge setback for BJP and especially Narendra Modi. Their aggressive call for 400 paar has disappeared into thin air, they didn’t even win a majority. This is an achievement for the people who have voted in favour of democracy so that their everyday issues can be addressed. BJP has no mandate, it has been given to the NDA… People had no faith in the INDIA block’s vote share, but it has happened.”
Notably, the CPI(M) just one a single seat in Kerala while the Congress-led United Democratic Front won 18 of the state’s 20 seats.
The Bhartiya Janata party opened its account by winning a single seat in the left-ruled state.
BJP’s Suresh Gopi won against VS Sunil Kumar in the Thissur Lok Sabha constituency with a margin of 74686 votes.
Congress incumbent MP Shashi Tharoor won Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat against BJP’s Rajeev Chandrasekhar for a record fourth term.
Tharoor said that the BJP put up an enormous fight and described it as a super over condition.
“This is a blessing for the fourth time, and I will do my best to be worthy of that trust to serve them well. The world T20 is going on, but the super over was here. The BJP put up an enormous fight. One important message from Suresh Gopi in Thrissur is his systematic outreach to minority communities. It is a very strong message to the BJP that a communal campaign won’t go very far in Kerala,” Tharoor said.
The final count for the Lok Sabha 2024 elections concluded on Tuesday, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning 240 seats, far fewer than had been expected, however, prevailing over the Opposition, Congress, which won 99 seats improving its tally from 52 in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. (ANI)
