Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], September 23 (ANI): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Monday welcomed the newly implemented Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms, stating that the changes will benefit all sections of society by reducing prices on essential items and improving economic accessibility.
While talking to ANI, Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai said, “GST reforms will benefit everyone…The number of slabs has been reduced to 2 slabs of 5% and 18% from 4. The 28% slab has been reduced to 18% with a decrease of 10%…The items of daily use have become cheaper…The price of pesticides has become cheaper…All sections of society will benefit from this.”
The reforms came into effect on Sunday, September 22, coinciding with the first day of Shardiya Navratri. The restructuring was approved during the 56th meeting of the GST Council held earlier this month.
Echoing similar sentiments, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the GST reform initiative, describing it as a “major gift” to the people of the country.
On the occasion, CM Saini also launched the GST Savings Festival during Shardiya Navratri. “Heartfelt greetings and congratulations to everyone on the occasion of Sharadiya Navratri and Agrasen Jayanti… Today, Prime Minister Modi has given a very big gift to the people of the country through GST reforms, which has benefited people a lot. We have also launched the GST Savings Festival today…” Saini told reporters.
The Haryana Chief Minister also mentioned the decrease in the prices of farmers’ equipment, which will benefit a state like Haryana, whose majority of the population is engaged in Agriculture.
“GST has been reduced on farmers’ equipment, and GST has been set to zero on daily use items… This decision by Prime Minister Modi will greatly benefit the people. GST has been reduced on medicines and insurance…,” added Saini.
He further mentioned that the purchase of paddy crop in Ladwa and Mandi has started from today. “In addition, on the occasion of Sharadiya Navratri and Agrasen Jayanti, the purchase of paddy crop in Ladwa and Mandi has also started from today,” added Saini.
The reform in the Goods and Services Tax structure, which was approved during the 56th meeting of the GST Council earlier this month, has come into effect from today. The current four-rate system has been replaced with a streamlined two-slab regime of 5% and 18%. A separate 40 per cent slab has been retained for luxury and sin goods.
This new framework is expected to ease compliance, reduce consumer prices, boost manufacturing, and support a wide range of industries, from agriculture to automobiles and from FMCG to renewable energy. It is intended to lower the cost of living, strengthen MSMEs, widen the tax base, and drive inclusive growth. (ANI)
