Paschim Medinipur (West Bengal) [India], October 20 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dilip Ghosh on Monday criticised the Mamata Banerjee government over increasing loans while accusing the Trinamool Congress (TMC) people of “eating up” from the state government’s revenue.
Speaking to reporters in Kharagpur, Ghosh said that there was no money left to carry out development works.
“The government of West Bengal runs on loans, and as long as this government remains in power, the loans will keep increasing because the government revenue that comes here is eaten up by the people of the party (TMC). Development works have come to a halt. The roads that were damaged due to rain have not been repaired since the government has no money,” Ghosh said.
Reacting to the letter written by the West Bengal CM to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ghosh said, “Let the central government do its work, let them do their job. It is not right to politicise everything.”
Earlier, Mamata Banerjee strongly objected to the centre’s move to appoint an interlocutor to hold discussions on issues related to the Gorkhas in the Darjeeling Hills, Tarai, and Dooars regions of the state, saying that the move was taken without consultation with the state government.
She further described it as a “unilateral” decision, saying that such action is inconsistent with the spirit of cooperative federalism, which forms one of the foundational principles of our Constitution.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Banerjee wrote, “I am surprised and shocked to know that the Government of India has appointed Shri Pankaj Kumar Singh, IPS (Retd.) as an interlocutor to hold discussions on the issues relating to Gorkhas in Darjeeling Hills, Tarai and Dooars regions of West Bengal.”
“This appointment has been made without any consultation with the Government of West Bengal, even though the issues under reference directly relate to the governance, peace, and administrative stability of the area under Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), an autonomous body under the Government of West Bengal. Such unilateral action is inconsistent with the spirit of cooperative federalism that forms one of the foundational principles of our Constitution,” the letter reads.
Chief Minister Banerjee noted that Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) was constituted following a Tripartite Agreement in 2011 to ensure socio-economic, infrastructural, educational, cultural and linguistic developments of the hill areas, while safeguarding the ethnic identity of the Gorkhas.
She urged Prime Minister Modi to reconsider and revoke this appointment order. (ANI)
