Guwahati (Assam) [India], August 30 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday strongly condemned the alleged derogatory remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the opposition’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar.
Speaking to the media, Sarma said that the opposition’s behaviour reflects a “feudal mentality.”
“Rahul Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav and others used abusive language against PM and his mother. This is highly condemnable. Yesterday, HM Amit Shah too condemned this from the soil of Assam and asked them to apologise. But let alone an apology, Congress brought forward someone from Madhya Pradesh and tried to give it a political colour,” CM Sarma said.
“The Bihar Government has arrested the person involved. Candidate Naushad is also being looked for. This is certainly Congress’s mentality. They could never have thought that someone outside the Gandhi family could become the Prime Minister,” he added.
Further sharpening his attacks on the opposition, the Assam CM stated that the Gandhi family believes no one other than them can occupy the PM post.
“Rahul Gandhi, his mother Sonia Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi think that India’s PM post cannot be occupied by anyone other than them. This is their feudal mentality,” CM Sarma said.
The Assam CM praised PM Modi’s leadership, saying, “PM Modi demolished their arrogance…He has run the government for 11 years and has become a global leader. The Gandhi family had never expected the welcome that the PM is getting in Japan and China. So, they are speaking abusive language against the PM and his late mother. People will respond to them in the Bihar elections itself.”
Meanwhile, Bihar BJP leaders staged a silent demonstration (maun dharna) at a Mahagathbandhan event in Darbhanga.
Earlier on Friday, the man accused of hurling abuses at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a political rally in Bihar was arrested, Darbhanga Senior Superintendent of Police told ANI.
The arrest followed the circulation of an alleged video on the internet showing the accused directing abusive slurs at PM Modi during an INDIA bloc event.
The incident had sparked a political row in the poll-bound state of Bihar.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress workers clashed in Bihar’s Patna on Friday over the alleged derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during an INDIA bloc rally in Darbhanga.
Stones were pelted at the site as the BJP staged a protest against the Congress in front of the Congress office in Patna.
Bihar Minister and BJP leader Nitin Nabin stated that the public will give a “befitting reply” to Congress. (ANI)
