Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 26 (ANI): An elderly woman has died after she was hit by a speeding car allegedly being driven by a doctor at Sion Hospital in central Mumbai, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Zubaida Sheikh. She was suffering from diabetes and was admitted to the Sion Hospital for the last two weeks. She was discharged from the hospital just a week ago and started visiting for follow-up.
Prashant Kadam, DCP Zone 4, said, “On 24th May, we got information that a senior citizen woman was found unconscious and had injuries on her head and body. When we verified her injuries, it seemed like an accident. During the investigation, it was found that she was injured after a black colour car driven by a doctor hit her. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.”
According to the officials, the car involved in the accident was of Dr Rajesh Dhere from the Sion hospital.
Dr Dhere is the head of the Forensic Medicine and Toxicology department of Sion Hospital and Dean of the BKC COVID Centre.
Based on the complaint of Shahnawaz Khan, son of the deceased woman, the police have registered a case under sections 304 A, 388, 279, 203, 177 and other sections of the Indian Penal Code against the doctor.
Dr Dhere has been arrested by the police in connection with the case.
A senior police officer said that the CCTV footage of the hospital premises is being scrutinized.
According to police sources, in the preliminary investigation, it seems that the woman has met with an accident but the police are investigating the matter from other angles as well. (ANI)
