New Delhi [India], June 7: In honor of World Environment Day (June 5, 2024), the Earth Companions Foundation (ECF), an NGO established under the Government of India Trust Act, has undertaken a series of impactful tree plantation drives across Mumbai, Delhi, Rampur, and in a rural village in Sant Kabir Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. Partnering with Health Views Online, these initiatives aim to raise awareness and foster community involvement in environmental conservation and the fight against climate change.
Mumbai: A Green Initiative with Indian Oil Corporation Limited
On World Environment Day, ECF founding members conducted a successful tree plantation drive in Trombay, Mumbai, in partnership with the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC). The event saw the planting of 80 trees, with active participation from IOC employees, including Chief Plant Manager Neeraj Kumar. ECF founding members and young volunteers from Chembur (Amaan Ahmed Nazim Shaikh, Sahil Ahmed Siraj Shaikh, Tanisha Pawar, Rohit Mane, Ekta Ramawat, Alok Varhade, Akshat Masukar, Aayesha Bhalerao, Pratham Randhive, and Rohan Adlikar) also enthusiastically joined the initiative, showcasing a strong community commitment to enhancing the local green cover.
The event was organized and co-ordinated by ECF founding members Vaishali Pawar, Yasmeen Shaikh, along with Vivek Pawar and Faiz Shaikh
Neeraj Kumar expressed his support for the initiative, stating, “Collaborating with Earth Companions Foundation on this tree plantation drive is a step towards our shared goal of sustainable development and environmental preservation.”
Rampur: Environmental Education Awareness Program at Impact College
In Rampur, President of Earth Companions Foundation (ECF) Mr Shahid Ali Khan along with Mr Faisal Shah Khan organized a comprehensive environmental awareness program on World Environment Day at the Impact College of Science and Technology, coupled with a tree plantation drive.
The event was graced by distinguished speakers, including the Chief Guest Dr.Iftekhar Ahmad Qadri, Astt.Professor Government Girls P G college,Qila , Rampur, Guest of Honour Mrs. Eram Naeem, Astt Professor, Government Raza P G College Rampur, Motivator Madam Shikha Sharma Ji, Dr.Shazia Bi, Dr.Dania Khan, Mr.Sudhir who addressed various topics related to environmental protection and emphasized the importance of sustainable practices.
Engaging Student Activities: To foster a deeper sense of environmental responsibility among students, the program hosted by Dr Sultan Ahmad Saifi, Prof. Asim Ahmed, Mr Sartaj Ahmad included a variety of creative activities. Poster-making and slogan-writing competitions were organized, engaging 60 undergraduate and postgraduate students. These activities allowed students to express their views on environmental conservation creatively and passionately.
Recognition and Awards: Participants in the competitions were recognized for their efforts and creativity. Medals and certificates were awarded to the top three winners, while all participants received certificates of participation. College staff members were also acknowledged for their support and contribution to the event, receiving certificates of appreciation. Additionally, the college was presented with mementos as a token of gratitude for hosting the event and supporting the cause.
Tree Plantation Drive: The program also featured a tree plantation drive on the college grounds. Students, faculty, Guests of Honour and ECF members planted various trees, contributing to the green cover and promoting the importance of reforestation.
Delhi: Raising Awareness Amidst Scorching Heat
In the intense summer heat of Delhi, ECF’s young members, Bharat Singh, Saba Sharma, Simran and Sejal Khandelwal, led the “Ped Lagao, Ped Bachao” campaign on World Environment Day. They not only planted trees but also educated the public about the critical importance of urban trees. Through engaging discussions and interactive sessions, they highlighted the urgent need to address climate change and protect Delhi’s green spaces.
Simran emphasized, “Trees are essential for combating air pollution and reducing urban heat islands. Every tree planted is a step towards a healthier, greener Delhi.”
Sant Kabir Nagar: Organic Tree Planting with Aaren Eco Farms
In Village Baurbyas (Sant Kabir Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh), ECF, in association with Aaren Eco Farms run by ECF Green Ambassadors RN Verma and Aashish Verma has initiated a unique tree plantation drive since 2016 focusing on organic methodologies. A variety of fruit plants are regularly planted on an entirely no-till organic farm, which uses no-till practices to prevent carbon emissions and promote soil health. This initiative not only aims to grow fruit trees organically but also highlights sustainable agricultural practices that can significantly reduce environmental impact. On the occasion of World Environment Day, several varieties of Mango including those from other Asian countries were planted.
When asked about this unique initiative, RN Verma from Aaren Eco Farms commented, “Our efforts and initiatives are based on the very foundation of sustainable farming practices, which combat climate change and promote biodiversity This is what connects us with Earth Companions Foundation”
