New Delhi [India], August 15 (ANI): Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh hoisted the flag at University of Delhi on the occasion of the 78th Independence Day and said that India has progressed a lot in 77 years of independence.
“Bharat has progressed a lot in 77 years of independence. Recently, the economy that Bharat has overtaken to become the 5th largest economy is Britain,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor said that today our country has overtaken Britain economically, politically, socially and technologically. He said that this year will prove to be a milestone in making Bharat developed and will work to strengthen the foundation of Bharat.
The Vice-Chancellor, in his address, further said, “Today is the day to remember all the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives in the freedom struggle and gave their all. He said that there is a lot of difference between independence and freedom. The country became independent on 15 August 1947, but our Constitution came into force on 26 January 1950.”
“Changing the old British laws, three new laws (Bhartiye Nyay Samhita 2023, Bhartiye Nagrik Suraksha 2023 and Bhartiye Sakshiye Adhiniyam 2023) have been implemented in the whole country from July 1,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor said that before the arrival of the British, Bharat had a 17 per cent share in the world economy. Earlier, raw material was not exported from here, but finished goods used to go out. The British closed the industries here and set up factories in England and raw materials started being sent from here.
Along with this, referring to the need for a strong central system, the Vice Chancellor said that from Chanakya to Dr BR Ambedkar, a strong central system has been suggested for Bharat.
The Vice-Chancellor also expressed gratitude to Dr Ambedkar for making provision for a strong central system for independent Bharat. At the end of his address, the Vice Chancellor called upon all the people present to play their respective roles and contribute to the Viksit Bharat campaign to make Bharat a developed nation by 2047.
During this ceremony, the Dean Ranking and the principals of various colleges were also honoured with certificates for the excellent performance of DU and its colleges in the NIRF Ranking 2024.
On this occasion, NCC cadets performed a parade. At the end of the ceremony, patriotic songs were presented by the students of the Department of Music and Fine Arts of the University of Delhi. On this occasion, the Director of South Delhi Campus Prof. Prakash Singh, Dean of Colleges Prof. Balaram Pani, Director of SOL Prof. Payal Mago and Registrar Dr. Vikas Gupta along with Deans, Heads of Departments, officers, teachers, staff and many students were present.
