New Delhi [India], October 12 (ANI): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually dedicated 74 infrastructure projects constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) at a cost of Rs 2236 crore to the nation on Saturday.
These projects – 22 roads, 51 bridges and two others – are spread across 11 States/Union Territories. Nineteen (19) are in Jammu and Kashmir, 18 in Arunachal Pradesh, 11 in Ladakh, nine in Uttarakhand, six in Sikkim, five in Himachal Pradesh, two each in West Bengal and Rajasthan and one each in Nagaland, Mizoram and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla joined the program virtually from Raj Bhawan Shimla.
These projects have been constructed in 11 border states/UTs of the country. Five bridges have been constructed and inaugurated in Himachal Pradesh. With this, in 2024 BRO has dedicated a record 111 Infrastructure projects to the nation. In 2023, a total of 125 infrastructure projects were dedicated to the nation.
In a ceremony organised by the Border Roads Organisation in Sikkim, the Defence Minister inaugurated 22 Roads, 51 Bridges and two other miscellaneous projects. These Infrastructure Projects have been constructed under challenging weather conditions at places with most inhospitable terrain.
The inauguration of these projects includes construction of five bridges in Himachal Pradesh at Munni (40 m), Bhaga (30 m), Dogri (65 m), Habsar (50 m) and Shalkhar-11 (45 m) on NH-3 (Road Manali-Sarchu), NH-5 (Road Powari-Pooh-Khab-Namgia-Chuppan-Shipkila) and NH-505 (Road Khab-Sumdo-Kaza-Gramphoo). The inauguration was carried out in a hybrid mode.
The Governor highlighted the importance of these strategic roads to facilitate the speedy induction of troops and equipment up to the Indo-China border. He said that the provisioning of bridges would also help the local populace in the socio-economic development of the area. He also appreciated the hard work of BRO in inhospitable terrain.
Governor Shukla said that BRO completed the construction of these critical strategic projects in the State in a record time frame and many of these Projects have been constructed in a single working season using state-of-the-art technology.
