New Delhi [India], October 21 (ANI): India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in Odisha in the upcoming week as Cyclone Dana is expected landfall on October 24.
Speaking to ANI, IMD scientist Soma Sen Roy said that warnings have been issued for coastal Odisha and Andaman and Nicobar Islands due to the impact of the landfall.
“Heavy rainfall warning issued in A&N Islands for today and tomorrow and in coastal Andhra Pradesh and coastal Odisha for October 23. Extremely heavy rainfall is expected on October 24 and 25 in the Gangetic West Bengal and coastal Odisha. Heavy rainfall is also expected in Assam, Tripura, Mizoram, and Meghalaya from October 23-25. In Delhi, the maximum temperature is expected to remain around 33-34 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature at 18-20 degrees Celsius,” she said.
Earlier in the day, IMD alerted that a low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal and North Andaman Sea, is likely to intensify into a depression by October 22 and a cyclonic storm by October 23, moving towards Odisha-West Bengal coasts by October 24.

“Subject: Low-Pressure Area formed over east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Andaman Sea Under the influence of yesterday’s upper air cyclonic circulation over North Andaman Sea and adjoining east-central & southeast Bay of Bengal, a Low-Pressure Area formed over the East-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea in the early morning (0530 hours IST) of today, the 21st October 2024,” IMD said in a post on X.
IMD further said that the low-pressure area is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression by October 22 morning and into a cyclonic storm by October 23 over east-central Bay of Bengal.
“Thereafter, it is very likely to move northwestwards and reach the northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha-West Bengal coasts by October 24 morning,” it added. (ANI)
