Controversy over SCBA resolution on Kolkata rape incident: Adish Aggarwala demands no-confidence motion against Kapil Sibal – World News Network

New Delhi [India], August 25 (ANI): Adish C Aggarwala, the immediate past president of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), has demanded that the current president, Kapil Sibal, either withdraw a controversial resolution passed on August 21, 2024, or issue a public apology to every SCBA member. Failure to comply could lead to a no-confidence motion against Sibal.
In a letter to the current President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Kapil Sibal, Adish C. Aggarwala, expressed serious concerns over a resolution related to the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Aggarwala’s letter criticises Sibal for issuing a purported SCBA resolution that described the incident as a “symptomatic malaise” and suggested that such incidents are commonplace.
Aggarwala states that this resolution was not officially approved by the SCBA’s Executive Committee, making it invalid. He accuses Sibal of using his position to undermine the gravity of the incident and of exhibiting a conflict of interest by representing the West Bengal government in related cases while making such statements.
The letter demands that Sibal withdraw the resolution and issue a public apology within 72 hours. Failure to do so could lead to a no-confidence motion against Sibal.
Adish C. Aggarwala’s letter to Kapil Sibal criticises Sibal for his attempt to undermine the seriousness of the RG Kar Medical College case, which is under serious scrutiny by the Supreme Court of India and the CBI.
Aggarwala contends that by mentioning the Chief Justice of India and issuing a purported SCBA resolution, Sibal has not only attempted to influence the Court and the investigation but has also damaged the credibility and integrity of the SCBA President’s role. This action, Aggarwala argues, has deeply hurt the medical and legal communities and casts a shadow over the SCBA’s reputation.
Several members of the Executive Committee (EC) of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) have also expressed concern over a resolution issued by SCBA President Kapil Sibal regarding the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital incident. They allege that the resolution, dated August 21, 2024, was signed by Sibal and circulated on SCBA letterhead without being presented to or approved by the Executive Committee. (ANI)
