Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], June 25 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party’s state president, Rajiv Bindal, criticised Congress on Monday and said that the party should stop instigating citizens in the name of the Constitution. He also said that Congress should first go through the history of June 25, the black day in the history of the nation.
BJP State President of Himachal Pradesh Rajiv Bindal said, “During the campaigning of the 2024 elections, the Congress Party talked about the Constitution and instigated the society and country that the Constitution will be changed and reservations for SCs, STs and OBCs will be abolished if Narendra Modi becomes Prime Minister. They garnered a huge number of votes for this claim. But the reality is that from 1947 to 2014, the Congress Party and the Congress Government have abolished the main sections of the Constitution more than 50 times in the name of constitutional amendment, the basic spirit has been abolished, the ill-effects of which have been felt by the whole country.”
“The Constitution that was made under the chairmanship of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Ji was made to achieve the far-reaching goal of India, but the previous experts of the Congress, in the greed for votes and for the accomplishment of their selfishness, to save their throne, made the Constitution many times and broke it,” he added.
Re-calling the moments of emergency, Bindal stated, “June 25, 1975, was a black day when Mrs. Indira Gandhi (former PM) pushed the country towards dictatorship to save her chair. On the morning of June 25, 1975, she put all the influential leaders of the country behind bars by imposing an internal emergency in the country at midnight on June 24. Even ‘Freedom of Press’ was snatched and freedom of speech, freedom of expression and freedom of writing–everything was abolished.”
Taking it further, he said, “The media persons who dared to write something, their newspapers, businesses, and houses were all locked and they were stuffed in dungeons (kaal-kothri). They continuously put the leaders and citizens who tried to raise their voices for democracy into jail. She strangled them and tortured them heavily. There was no limit to atrocities and fear. The honour and respect of mother and sister started getting shredded.”
“Couples who were newly married and did not have a single girl child in their family were sterilised, and their lives were ruined. There was such an atmosphere of fear that if a policeman went to the entire village, the entire village would become deserted. There was so much fear that the police would not know when they would kill someone, when they would extort money from someone, or when they would sterilise someone.”
He asserted, “Even if all these atrocities are combined in one line, this attack by the Congress was more tainted than the rule of the Britishers.”
Highlighting the constitutional amendments and atrocities committed against those who opposed Indira Gandhi, Bindal said, “Various sections of the Constitution were amended. Just remembering the emergency of June 25, 1975, gives me goosebumps. Basically, in the name of ‘Maintainence of the Internal Security Act’ (MISA), thousands of leaders and thousands of people who were personally against Congress were put in prison for 19 months each. For participating in this great sacrifice of saving democracy, I too had to spend four months in Karnal jail in Haryana. In a false case, Defence of India Rule (DIR) Section 33 was imposed on me to keep me in jail for four months. The punishment given by Mrs. Indira Gandhi at that time is difficult to cover up today. Lakhs of people like me were kept in different jails in India.”
“Anyone who raised the slogan “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” was beaten to death with sticks and gun butts. In protest against the abolition of freedom of the press, we also installed a cyclosteel machine, started printing newspapers secretly and delivered those newspapers to their destination overnight,” he added.
Bindal, on Congress’ defeat in elections post-emergency, said, “Ultimately, when the elections were announced, the people defeated the dictatorial Congress, which led to the complete establishment of democracy.
He concluded and said, “The Congress leaders who talk about democracy should first read the history of June 25. Due to the misdeeds of the Congress, the 800-year-old struggle for independence was wasted. If the country had not stood together and faced the opposition, it would have become a slave again. June 25, 2024, has a very clear message for Congress and its workers: They should stop instigating people in the name of the Constitution.”
Amid the row over the appointment of Bhartruhari Mahtab as pro-tem speaker, INDIA bloc leaders on Monday carried out a protest holding copies of the Constitution inside the Parliament premises in the national capital.
Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, party leader Rahul Gandhi, and party chief Mallikarjun Kharge took part in the protest.
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said, “The ruling party hasn’t forgotten their haughtiness…we can see that they are ignoring the key subjects of the country…the whole Dalit community in India could witness a historic scene if K Suresh were appointed as Pro-tem Speaker…today, BJP has not just neglected Congress, INDIA alliance and K Suresh but the whole Dalit community…” (ANI)
