Chandigarh (Haryana) [India] June 21 (ANI): Haryana Congress has urged Governor Bandaru Dattatreya to dissolve the Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini led BJP government in the State alleging that it did not have the desired majority. They have sought fresh elections in the Haryana.
Haryana Congress Chief Udai Bhan after meeting with Governor Bangaru Dattatreya on Thursday said, “They (BJP) do not have the full majority, they only have 43 MLAs while they need 44, so they are engaged in horse-trading. To stop the horse-trading, the government should be immediately dismissed and a fresh mandate should be taken…”
The delegation of the Congress party led by two-time Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda met the Governor last evening and handed over a memorandum urging the Governor to dismiss the current government and seek a fresh mandate from the public.
After meeting the Haryana Governor, former Haryana CM and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda said, “We have demanded the dissolution of the House. This government has no moral right and if they want to prove it (majority) then they should parade their MLAs in front of the Governor. Horse-trading of MLAs should stop. On moral grounds, this government should resign and elections should be held…”
In the 90 member house the BJP 41 legislators and the state government had the support of one legislator of the Haryana Lokhit Party and one Independent legislator.
On Wednesday prominent Haryana leaders, Kiran Choudhry and her daughter Shruti Choudhry, left the Congress to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. Both the leaders joined the BJP in a ceremony at the party headquarters in New Delhi in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, former CM and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, and the BJP’s National General Secretary, Tarun Chugh.
Regarding Kiran Choudhary’s exit the Haryana state congress leader Udai bhan said, “It was her wish. She said she didn’t see growth in Congress and felt BJP had better growth options, so she went. People keep coming and going from the party. It is a big party. It is not a question of one Kiran Chaudhary; 40-42 have joined also.”
In the 2019 Assembly Elections, the BJP had secured 40 seats while Congress emerged victorious on 31 seats. The Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) had won 10 seats.
Meanwhile, in the 2024 parliamentary elections, the Congress won 5 out of the 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state. (ANI)
